The Chicken Whisperer

I love the unexpected especially when it comes to folks doing their own thing and being original.  This is something I encourage in my 13 year old son and is certainly one of the themes of THE SWEETHEART OF PROSPER COUNTY.  Embracing what I know and what I love -- despite the naysayers and self doubt -- kicked wide the door to Austin's voice and her journey.  I worship at the church of "Do Your Own Thing And Do It Well."

This brings me to my new favorite tweeter, guilty pleasure, and true original:  The Chicken Whisperer.

The Chicken Whisperer is a Georgia boy by the name of Andy Schneider who hosts a nationally broadcast radio show on raising backyard poultry.  An expert/guru of chicken raising, he's contributed to publications such as Farmers Almanac, worked with CNN and Farmers Almanac TV, and is currently being interviewed by the LA Times.  That's right.  He's taken backyard poultry nationwide.  Love it!  You go boy!

And if being "The Chicken Whisperer" isn't reason enough to admire his success at doing what he clearly enjoys, check out the titles to his next two books -- "Chicks Are Easy" and "Peep Show."  Original and funny.  I'm an official fan.

Check him out around noon each day at the link above.  And tell him The WonkyTonk sent you!

Hey Jill,
I love my chickens. But I have too many roosters, and even the coyotes won't take them. Great blog about BEA, too. I just got into SWEETHEART, having finished my latest work and now plowing through my stack of ARCs. What a terrific voice and thoroughly enjoyable read! Congratulations to you, and wishing you the very best.

Re: Congratulations
Thanks, Andrew! I hope you enjoy Sweetheart, and great job on IN THE PATH OF FALLING OBJECTS -- sensory, visual, unsettling (in a good way). You sure know how to grab a reader by the shirt collar and pull her into the story! I feel really blessed to be on the F&F list with you. Oh, try to keep that desk chair off your foot. :)
