Rockin' The Boots

I tend to agree with my favorite Texas politician, Kinky Friedman.  "Only two kinds of people wear cowboy hats:  cowboys and assholes."

However, anyone can rock the cowboy boot.

I'm not going to extol the virtues of the boot in terms of comfort, other than to note that I walked in the December cold from the south end of Central Park to Greenwich Village in mine.  Better than Nike.  I'm just sayin'.  Remember, folks do two-step and waltz all night in them as well.

But this is a fashion post, and the right cowboy boot can be an extension of your personality like the perfect handbag or funky piece of jewelry.  A pair of Justin Ropers?  You probably know how to build fence.  Lime green with hot pink flowers?  A girly, girl.  Tony Lama black cherry with a rounded toe?  Bet we'd find a starched pair of Wranglers in a dry cleaning bag in your closet.  Honestly, there's a boot out there for everyone.

Below, you'll see a picture of my newest and favorite pair.  My sweetheart boots.  A Christmas present from my hubby who, by the way, still wears on occasion the butterscotch Tony Lamas he's had since high school.

So if you're thinking about rockin' the boots, here are some of my favorite stores to get you going in the right direction.  They all have websites and ship.

Cavender's Boot City in Tyler, Texas -- big selection of classic makers and fun styles for ladies.

Weldon's in Denton, Texas -- New and vintage.  Love, LOVE the vintage boots.  Lots of custom made, well-cared for vintage boots that are really special.  Especially if you're into going green,  vintage boots are the rage.  Get them to send you photos of what they have in your size.

M.L. Leddy's in Fort Worth, Texas -- New, Custom, and vintage handmade boots.  I wear Leddy boots.  They're more narrow in the throat which is better with women's jeans.  They're handmade and quite fine.  Leddy's knows how to make women's boots in particular.

Love your new boots! Very classy indeed. And I'm going to remember Kinky Friedman's very wise observation, as well.
