National Farmer's Market Week

It's National Farmer's Market Week, so get your fresh-picked fruit and veggie fix on!

In honor of the week and our local farmers, I'm showcasing two of East Texas' finest farming families.

First up, Efurd Orchards.  Located in Camp County, the Efurd family has been growing the sweetest, juiciest peaches for generations.  They opened for business in 1971.  I can't recall a summer without an Efurd peach.  The fruit stand pictured below was the inspiration for Fortenberry Fruits in THE SWEETHEART OF PROSPER COUNTY.

Next up, Claiborne Farms.  Hailing from Cherokee County, the Claibornes grow it all:  rich, red Jacksonville tomatoes, Noonday onions, cucumbers, yellow squash, and lady cream peas.  This is Daphine and you can find her at the Tyler Farmers Market on Tuesdays.  She's the veggie guru.  And tell her the Wonkytonk sent you!
